Site
For their promotion around the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Coke launched a new site to unite the east and the west, and interpret ideas and passions that unite us, every experience turns around on of the 8 themes, like Human collaboration, uplifting moments, global harmony, ....
To accomplish this they took 8 artists from the east and 8 musicians from the west and brought everything together.
On one hand you got a design experience where you'll be able to get the bottle specially designed and you can download the wallpaper from the east and on the other hand you got a musical experience where you can not only listen but download the full album from all the musicians that participated to the project. From every artist you can also see a little introduction movie and their description.
And if you want to go one step further you can design your own bottle and submit it.
This site brings a real Coke experience like it should be it's all really nicely designed site, everything runs smooth and the features that you get (like the download of the full album)are more than good, I'm a fan.

You saw the post some weeks ago about the Sam The Eagle, I thought it was a campaign for the 4th of July, well not really it's actually a viral campaign to launch their new show called Studio DC on Disney Channel. At the moment the Muppets are launching their viral assault cause at the moment a numerous amount of Muppet characters have their YouTube channel Beaker, The Great Gonzo, Statler & Waldorf, The Swedish Chef and the start Sam The Eagle. It's a nice way to promote such a show, some viral's that hover around on the net seem to really do the trick as I've seen Sam the Eagle shown up in the Viral Video Chart but also Ode To Joy from Beaker and 1.5 million views in 2 weeks is far from bad.
Some examples of my favorite chars Statler & Waldorf.

Site
I stumbled upon a new site for Axe shower gel called Axe Skin on Skin action, the site looks nice, there are some funny movies (the music is really disturbing).
But the main attraction is the pillow fight, where you can create your avatar and challenge other visitors that come to the site. Everything looked really good till that moment, the problem was I stayed on the site for more than an hour (cause the pillow widget doesn't seem to work) but had no visitor at all or if I had one and challenged him there was no response so I didn't have one fight which was kind of a bummer...
I also had to do more than one trial to subscribe as the system wasn't really stable and even after I subscribed most of the features and possibilities where not even available.
Bottom line for me it was not really a satisfying web experience, I don't know if the site is still in Beta but this definitely doesn't meet Axe campaign standards.

Heineken launched a new site where you can create and order your own designed 6-pack. Everything is nicely designed and the user interface is easy to use so it all looks very neath.
never the less they are for sure not the first once that came up with such a concept. My company created some time ago a Site for the Belgian beer brand Vedett (a well known person translated in English) where you could upload your picture, the members would vote for it and every month the winners received their 6 pack with their image printed upon. It wasn't and isn't as nice as the Heineken site but the whole concept was there. Anyway the site looks really good and the concept is still a great.

Windows Live messenger
Apparently this is not really new but I just found a pretty nice tool on the liveside.net blog to communicate with your customers/friends or readers in a pretty easy way. As pretty much everyone I know has Windows Live messenger installed and is using it (or at least it stays open) the whole day this is really a nice tool to communicate immediately with about everyone that visits your side or any other application online. What an easy way to set up a helpdesk for example.
Anyway if you want to send me a message, go ahead, I'll be more than happy to respond.

Photoshop
Some time ago I had to search for an alternative for Photoshop, my basic use of Photoshop couldn't really be worth the cost of a license. For a graphical designer there isn't really an alternative worth while for Photoshop but for a basic user that just wants to have a look and validate PSD files or just do some basic changes there has to be an alternative. While I was looking for one that suited my needs I stumbled upon Paint .NET that did all the basic stuff I needed to do with images except one important thing it couldn't open those darn PSD files that I get from the graphical designers. Happily I quickly found plug in that did exactly this. I've been working since about 3 months now with Paint .Net and I'm a happy user, I found an alternative for Photoshop and even more important it's totally free which is also an important advantage.
Absolut vodka launched a series of viral commercials starring Kanye west, I like the absolute concept and the commercials are one by one superb at the moment. The first one to tease everyone looks like a trashy commercial for a stupid product the next one is more a clubby moment about the Kanye product.
The idea behind it is that everyone is visionary and that the everyone's idea could be realized in an Absolut world, so they also created an according site which is also really worth a look and you can also look at the uploaded visions on their YouTube channel or visit the blog.
Anyway these vodka brands have always so smashing ideas and concepts.

For his 50th anniversary Chupa Chups launched a superb animation over the past 50 years of history going from the Lolling stones, Star wars, Apple, Pac Man, Back to the future to the Spice Girls, Forest Gump and Harry Potter.
The animation is really appealing only too bad they didn't have a look at the rest of the site for example the products leads me to a site that doesn't even want to load.

Second Life
Google launched a Second Live clone/revival called Lively (it's released in Beta phase), the nice thing about it is that you can integrate it about everywhere and you don't need an incredible install and update procedure, it's all extremely light.
I wondered around in some worlds and at the moment the only thing I can say is that it takes a lot of time to load but once you're in it isn't that difficult and quite user friendly. I can imagine that you can easily use this for marketing purposes as an added possibility to communicate with your audience. The great thing about this (as you may see below if you installed the plugin) is that you can just copy your room and put it on your site.
Again a nice piece of technology and skill from the Google House but we'll see if it's one that will last or will just go the same way as it's predecessor.

I know it's not the first time that I'm writing about the fact that we should be more creative with banners but once and a while I stumble upon such a great example of creativity with this limited amount of space that's it's definitely worth showing. This one is from Dove, and it's just great, idea, execution, everything is a perfect fit.

What’s the viral power of the Internet? Well you start with something and all of the sudden hundreds of people are doing the same thing and sometimes it’s what you intended them to do but sometimes it just pops out of nowhere and creates the perfect marketing campaign.
The perfect example viral behavior is the latest commercial from Discovery channel called “I love the whole world”.
I guess when they launched their new commercial nobody would have expected to unleash such a mania on the Internet. Still if you have a look at YouTube you’ll notice that the whole gamers community copied the concept and made it their own going from Halo 3 to the Simpsons to final fantasy and even a gamers compilation (one well worth to have a look at ).
Sometimes is the viral seeding really intended; I guess everybody knows by now the guy that backflips into his jeans, nobody did put a brand on this viral video but it was totally intended as a viral campaign from Levis. Still a good one but it wasn’t just a bunch of guys enjoying themselves it was a well thought marketing concept.
The best way to check viral video campaigns is the http://www.viralvideochart.com/, be sure that if your campaign pops up in here you got a successful campaign.

North Kingdom
Another work of art from North Kingdom, for their client Mentos they created a site called kissfight in which you need to kiss your opponent in a mortal combat style.
After projects like get the Glass and the Coke Zero Game the Swedish agency North Kingdom has another his, the site created for Mentos, kissfight. This is a great example of video and game combined and flawlessly executed. The brand Mentos itself is also on an Internet vibe cause after their Kiss Cam movie this is now the second interactive project that is well worth a look.
